Winnipeg police are asking anyone who knew a man killed one year ago to come forward and speak with investigators.
Sukhdool Singh Gill, 39, was found dead in a duplex on the 200 block of Hazelton Drive on Sept. 20, 2023.
At the time of his death, media reports in India claimed Gill, also known as Sukha Duneke, was a gang member wanted in Punjab, an Indian state bordering Pakistan, for various crimes. News outlets in India alleged a rival gang in that country had taken credit for Gill’s death, which they reported as a shooting.

Six bullet holes were visible on the home’s exterior rear wall after the slaying, and the garage door was left open with no vehicles inside.
Neighbours who spoke with the Free Press at the time said they did not hear any gunshots.
Gill’s homicide happened amid tensions between the Canadian and India governments over the June 2023 slaying of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, B.C.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said agents of the Indian government might have been linked to Nijjar’s killing. Four men were arrested and charged in connection to that killing this May.
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information on Gill’s whereabouts and interactions before his death to contact the homicide unit at 204-986-6508, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
