An item with a blinking red light and visible wires with smoke pouring out of it was seen in the back lane of the 400 block of Elgin Avenue Saturday evening.

Winnipeg police were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. and after securing the scene a bomb technician was called in.
Shortly after nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution and at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday 22, a bomb robot was deployed to disengage the device.
After the device was disabled, the area was declared safe. No injuries were reported, and the investigation into the origins of the suspicious item continues. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or provide information anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
