Residents of Riverview Health Centre paws for special parade

Residents of Riverview Health Centre had front-row seats in a special parade over the weekend.

On Saturday, dozens of dogs lined the street to participate in the annual Riverview Health Centre Puppy Parade.

The event was created during the COVID-19 pandemic after pet therapy was cancelled due to restrictions. Although those restrictions have since been eased, the parade has been something that residents continue to look forward to.

This year, the pets and their owners walked around the building once, allowing residents unable to come outside, to watch the dogs from their windows. For those who were able, they also held a meet and greet and photo booth in the front loop of the health care facility.

“The weather held off until we were pretty much done, and because of relaxed COVID restrictions, we were able to go into the nice warm atrium where everyone was lined up for a bit of puppy love,” said the organizer.

The participants and residents wrapped up the event with tasty treats and refreshments for everyone involved.
