Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Austin Street North

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:40 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 200 block of Austin Street North. The reports indicated that there may be occupants trapped in the house.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. They initially launched a fire attack from the exterior. Once it was safe to enter, they transitioned to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:13 a.m.

Crews confirmed that all occupants of the house had self-evacuated. One individual was assessed by paramedics at the scene, but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was called to help displaced residents find temporary accommodations.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
