A Winnipeg woman who police say was assaulted on Assiniboine Avenue Sunday has died from her injuries.

Sunday afternoon, Winnipeg Police responded to an assault in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue. When officers arrived, members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were administering emergency medical care to an unconscious woman in the common area of an apartment building. The woman, identified as 52-year-old Lucy Wood of Winnipeg, appeared to have been assaulted and was suffering from serious injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died.
Police arrested a man within the building, and the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. A Winnipeg man, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of assault, and uttering threats.
Family notifications have been made. The investigation continues.
