Residents invited to provide input on proposed recreation centre for southeast Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Manitoba – The City of Winnipeg is looking at building a new recreation centre in southeast Winnipeg and is seeking input from residents on the programs and recreation amenities they would like to see at it.

The proposed Bonavista Recreation Centre would be located in the south section of Fraipont Park, near the intersection of Evelyne Reese Boulevard and Warde Avenue. The centre would include a gymnasium and multipurpose rooms.

“A new recreation centre in southeast Winnipeg is a much-needed facility for one of the fastest growing areas of the city,” said Brian Mayes, Councillor for St. Vital. “We’re excited to introduce this project to the community, and hear from them about what kinds of programs and amenities they’d like to see included.”

Residents can provide their input during the first phase of public engagement through an online survey available until October 30, 2024.Input will help inform the draft design, which will be shared for additional feedback in the next phase of public engagement.

A total of $5.25 million in City funding is included in the 2024-2027 Multi-Year Budget towards the project, subject to Council’s final approvals.
