Winnipeg police seize firearms, drugs after traffic stop

Winnipeg police noticed a 2003 Lincoln Navigator in the Transcona neighbourhood on Tuesday at approximately 5:40 p.m., being driven with lapsed insurance. They pulled the car over in the 700 block of Panet Road.

Police said that while speaking with the adult male driver, he informed officers of firearms in the vehicle. The male was arrested without incident, and officers seized several firearms and ammunition including a Colt Sporter .223, a CBC .22, a Beretta 12 gauge shotgun, a Winchester 30-30 rifle, a Smith & Wesson .44 handgun, a Browning 9mm handgun, a box containing various 9mm and .22 calibre rounds of ammunition.

Officers also found approximately 1 gram of cocaine on the male. Further investigation revealed that he did not possess a possession and acquisition license.

A 37-year-old man from Winnipeg faces multiple charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

He was released on an appearance notice and undertaking as required by the Criminal Code.
