Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Elgin Avenue and Carlton Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires this morning.

Elgin Avenue fire

At 8:22 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey residence in the 600 block of Elgin Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the house. The entered and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:03 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Carlton Street fire

At 9:07 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 0 to 100 block of Carlton Street.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the building. The located a fire in one of the suites and launched a fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:22 a.m.

Occupants of the building self-evacuated. One resident was assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not currently available.
