Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Ellesmere Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house under construction in the 0 to 100 block of Ellesmere Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, the found smoke and flames coming from the house. They launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:29 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure, and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation.

If residents see someone actively entering a vacant structure (including those under construction) or removing boards from windows or doors, they should report the incident immediately by calling the Winnipeg Police Service at 911. Anyone who sees that boarded windows or doors have been breached, but did not see someone actively entering or attempting to enter a structure should report the incident to 311.

REMINDER: Structure and wildland fires can spread quickly in windy conditions. When wind speeds are greater than 25 km/h, permitted fire activities such as open fires, fire pits, and fireworks are not allowed, regardless of whether or not there is a fire ban in place.
