Winnipeg police found the victim, a 36-year-old man, with a serious but non-life-threatening injury to his upper body. He was taken to the hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

Police said the victim had been travelling south on a transit bus when a group of suspects boarded at Marion Street and St. Mary’s Road. A verbal dispute between the group and the victim escalated into a physical altercation. The fight continued outside the bus in the 200 block of St. Mary’s Road, where the victim was stabbed.

A good Samaritan helped the victim re-enter the bus, and the transit operator called the police. The suspects fled on foot before officers arrived. The victim and the suspects were unknown to each other.

The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
