Lyft gears up for Winnipeg launch, seeking local drivers

Winnipeg residents will soon have another ride-sharing option as Lyft prepares to enter the city’s transportation market. The popular ride-hailing company has begun the process of recruiting drivers in Winnipeg, adding the city to its expanding list of Canadian markets.

Lyft officially started accepting driver applications, inviting interested individuals to download the Lyft Driver app and submit the necessary documents. This marks the company’s first major step toward launching operations in Winnipeg.

Adam Campbell of the City of Winnipeg confirmed that Lyft has been granted a dispatcher license, which allows the company to operate in the city legally. More details about when passengers can start booking rides are expected soon.

The arrival of Lyft comes as Winnipeg’s vehicle-for-hire industry continues to grow. In a December 2023 report, Winnipeg reported more than 6.6 million ride-hailing trips in 2022.

As Lyft looks to establish its presence in Winnipeg, the company’s entry is expected to provide residents with more choices for getting around the city while creating new opportunities for local drivers.
