What’s open, cosed on turkey day

The leaves are changing colour, turkeys are flying off the shelves, and people are feeling thankful. It can only mean one thing — Canada will celebrate Thanksgiving Day Monday.

Many government services will be open different hours or closed on Thanksgiving. Here’s a selection:

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed Monday.

There is no mail delivery on Monday. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

RECYCLING AND TRASH

Recycling and garbage will be collected as usual for those with Monday as their collection day.

The Brady Road landfill will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The 4R Winnipeg depot at the Brady landfill will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Pacific Avenue 4R and Panet Road 4R Winnipeg depots will be closed Monday.

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed Monday.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

All indoor recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, except for the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) the Margaret Grant Pool (open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and the Pan Am Pool (open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

The Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses will be open Monday, weather permitting.

CEMETERIES

All city cemetery grounds are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The administration office at Brookside Cemetery will be closed.

SHOPPING

CF Polo Park, Garden City Shopping Centre, Kildonan Place, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and St. Vital Centre will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

The Forks Market will be open.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the True North Square location, which will be closed Monday.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours, so call ahead.

Most grocery stores will be open, but possibly with different hours.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo, the Leaf, the Manitoba Children’s Museum and the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will be open regular hours Monday.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Manitoba Museum and Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will be closed Monday.
