Pro-Palestinian protestors to move into Winnipeg Jewish neighbourhood for first time

Saturday marks the holiest day on the Hebrew calendar, the Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur when Jews are deep in prayer and keeping a solemn 24-hour fast.

With tensions already high because of the ongoing war in the Middle East between Israel and designated Islamist terror groups, anti-Israel protesters in Winnipeg are setting up a demonstration on Yom Kippur in a Jewish neighbourhood.

Another “All Out For Palestine’ rally is scheduled for noon Saturday. Previously the pro-Palestinian rallies have taken place around Portage and Main, City Hall, St. Vital Centre and the Polo Park mall, but for the first time will locate at Kenaston Boulevard and Grant Avenue outside Superstore, which has for months been the site of weekly rallies by supporters of the Jewish state. The area has the highest percentage of Jewish residents in Manitoba.

The announcements of the rally promote the narrative that Jews are not indigenous to Israel and that Palestinians are the victims of genocide.

An online post by Ramsey Zeid, head of the Palestinian Association of Manitoba, claims “our leaders are not only silent but are publicly announcing that the colonial settlers have a right to defend themselves,” and calls Zionism — the belief that Jews have a right to live in their traditional homeland —  “a disease that must be destroyed.”

These protests often include a small contingent of extremist, secular anti-Zionist Jewish marchers as well as “peace activists” from Mennonite and other organizations.
