Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Logan Avenue and Laura Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires last evening.

Logan Avenue fire

At 6:09 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, industrial/commercial structure in the 900 block of Logan Avenue. The building was previously damaged by fires in May 2024 and August 2023. Due to the damage, parts of the building had been demolished.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the building. Due to the previous damage, it was not safe for crews to enter. They launched a defensive fire attack, using hose lines from the exterior to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.

Laura Street fire

At 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 200 block of Laura Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the house. They entered and fought the fire from inside, declaring the fire under control at 7:22 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

REMINDER: If residents see someone actively entering a vacant structure, or removing boards from windows or doors, they should report the incident immediately by calling the Winnipeg Police Service at 911.

Anyone who sees that boarded windows or doors have been breached, but did not see someone actively entering or attempting to enter a structure should report the incident to 311.
