A 13-year-old boy was seriously wounded by a bullet fired into his bedroom early Saturday, in an apparent drive-by shooting on a northern Manitoba First Nation.
The boy was in his bed in Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation when shots were fired at the house, said RCMP, who received the report just before 2:30 a.m.
The bullets passed through the living room without hitting anyone before at least one hit the boy in his bedroom. He was rushed to the community’s nursing station with life-threatening injuries and then transported to Winnipeg, RCMP said. His condition has been upgraded to stable.
There were five other people in the home, including three other youths. Police said the house was targeted.
The First Nation is located about 800 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
The investigation is continuing.
