Winnipeg restaurant goers subdue would-be robber

Several people in a restaurant in the 100 block of Meadowood Drive held a man, who was later charged with robbery, until police arrived on Monday.

Police said a man entered the restaurant at about 6:20 p.m., with his face covered, brandishing a “sharp-edged” weapon, and demanding money from two female employees, aged 22 and 29. Several patrons intervened, disarmed the suspect, and held him until police arrived. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was medically cleared by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. No injuries were reported among the victims.

A 35-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, and disguise with intent. He was released on an undertaking as required by the Criminal Code.
