Winnipeg police said they received multiple reports of a loose large-breed dog on Tuesday afternoon in the first 100 block of Stadacona Street.

Officers found three adults and one youth suffering from serious dog bites. A 16-year-old girl had a severe upper-body injury, and officers applied a tourniquet to provide emergency care before transporting her to the hospital in stable condition.

The three other victims, a 48-year-old woman, a 67-year-old man, and a 73-year-old man, sustained upper-body injuries and made their own way to the hospital for treatment.

Bystanders helped corral the dog to prevent further attacks and directed officers to its location. Due to the dog’s continued aggressive behavior, officers were forced to use a firearm to neutralize the threat for public safety.

The dog’s owner and Animal Services were notified. None of the victims’ injuries were life-threatening despite the seriousness of the attacks.
