RCMP officers seized what they called “a significant amount of Canadian currency” at the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport on Saturday.

Officers were called to the airport’s screening area after a suitcase containing a large quantity of cash was detected.

Police located the suitcase owner, a 30-year-old man from Calgary, in the departure area. The man, who was en route to Toronto, was arrested for possession of proceeds of crime. He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg court on Feb. 3, 2025.

The investigation is ongoing.
