Police responded around 4 a.m. to reports of a disturbance in the 400 block, where they found an agitated man on a front porch holding a large, edged weapon. Authorities safely evacuated family members, including young children, from the residence before the man barricaded himself inside.
Police deployed multiple resources, including the tactical support team (TST) and the drone unit as well as general patrol officers, who remained on scene for hours. The man refused to surrender, leading TST members to deploy “a less-lethal munition” (OC canisters). This tactic allowed officers to use a Taser and take the individual into custody without further incident.
The 30-year-old Winnipeg resident now faces charges of weapon possession, mischief, resisting a peace officer, and multiple warrants for failing to comply with court orders.
