By making such developments a permitted use in these zones, developers will no longer need to undertake zoning or variance applications or navigate public hearings to get their projects approved. The adjustments are intended to reduce delays and encourage housing projects that align with the city’s growth strategy.
An affordable housing requirement is also part of the new framework. This provision seeks to ensure that as the city expands its housing stock, it also addresses the growing need for affordable options.
Klein questioned whether the changes would lead to meaningful increases in affordable housing. Both emphasized the importance of monitoring the implementation to ensure the changes achieve their intended goals.
