The heartbreak from last week’s fatal collision near Altona continues to weigh heavily on the community and the family of Sara Unger and her eight-year-old daughter, Alexa. The pain is compounded by the knowledge that the man charged in connection with their deaths, Navjeet Singh, remains at large. RCMP have issued a Canada-wide warrant, yet Singh has evaded capture. This cannot stand.

Every day Singh remains free is another day the Unger family and the community must endure the lingering uncertainty and injustice. Sara and Alexa were vibrant, beloved members of their community.
They left behind a grieving family and countless friends who now struggle to move forward. A father and a young brother have lost the foundation of their family. Forgiveness was within reach when Singh initially cooperated with authorities, but his decision to flee has shattered that possibility.
The charges against Singh — dangerous driving causing death and obstructing a peace officer — are severe, reflecting the magnitude of the tragedy. Investigators have pieced together a horrific sequence of events: a semi-trailer barreling through a stop sign, colliding with an SUV, and instantly altering lives forever.

RCMP did not take Singh into custody immediately after the crash, adhering to legal protocols that ensure a thorough and defensible investigation. Unfortunately, Singh exploited this process, vanishing from the justice system’s reach.
We urge Singh to turn himself in immediately. Fleeing responsibility dishonours the lives lost and intensifies the community’s pain. Facing justice is not only a legal obligation but a moral one. To those who may know his whereabouts, consider the harm being done to the grieving family by your silence. This is not just a legal matter — it is a question of humanity.
The Winnipeg Sun will keep Singh’s photo visible daily until he is apprehended. This daily reminder serves as a testament to the commitment of law enforcement, the community’s demand for justice, and the memory of Sara and Alexa.
The family and community deserve closure. Singh must face the consequences of his actions. Until that happens, our dedication to this cause will remain unwavering.
