For the second year in a row, pickup trucks occupy the top four spots, reflecting a persistent trend in vehicle thefts across the province.
The Ford F-150 was the most frequently stolen vehicle in Manitoba this year, with 164 thefts reported. Close behind were the Dodge Ram with 162 thefts, the Chevrolet Silverado with 133, and the GMC Sierra with 119. This ranking mirrors last year’s data when the Silverado led the list with 190 thefts, followed by the F-150, Ram, and Sierra.
MPI attributes the prevalence of pickup truck thefts to their popularity among drivers in Manitoba. These vehicles consistently rank among the most-registered models in the province, highlighting their appeal and high value. Expensive vehicles like these can be attractive targets for thieves seeking financial gain.

This year’s list of the ten most-stolen vehicles also includes smaller models such as the Honda Civic, Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota RAV4, and Chevrolet Cruze. The Chevrolet Cruze replaced the Honda CR-V in tenth place, marking the only change in models compared to last year’s list. Combined, the top ten models accounted for 983 of the 2,787 reported auto thefts this year, or about 35 percent. This is a slight decrease from last year when the top ten made up 39 percent of all vehicle thefts.
Auto theft remains a costly issue for Manitobans. Claims for stolen vehicles directly impact insurance rates, which are shared among ratepayers. MPI has expressed cautious optimism that 2024 may see a further decline in thefts, but stresses the importance of preventative measures. Motorists are urged to keep their vehicles secure by avoiding leaving keys in cars and ensuring doors are locked, particularly as colder weather sets in.
The ongoing challenge of vehicle theft underscores the need for vigilance and awareness. While some progress has been made, thefts remain a significant concern for vehicle owners and insurers alike.
