Manitobans deserve access to quality HIV and AIDS prevention and care, and I’m proud to say that this is a priority for our government.

We have invested over $8 million in initiatives that are increasing access to care and promoting awareness of HIV in Manitoba.

We are partnering with provincewide, local and Indigenous-led organizations to improve access to quality HIV prevention, intervention and support.

We removed barriers to accessing HIV-AIDS medication by providing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis and anti-retroviral therapy for free and are expanding access to HIV medications by removing the requirement for health-care providers to register in order to prescribe PrEP.

While I am proud of the extensive work that is ongoing under our government, there is still so much we need to do.

Today we celebrate the many advocates, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and community health workers who are working hard every day to improve care for Manitobans living with HIV-AIDS.

I want to acknowledge all Manitobans living with HIV-AIDS, your families, friends and loved ones, I want to thank you for your courage, your perseverance and your resilience.

On this World AIDS Day and every day forward, we are committed to bringing better care to everyone in Manitoba.
