Distracted Driving:

On average, one in three deaths and one in three serious injuries on Manitoba roads involve a distracted driver.

It is against the law to use any hand-held device for any reason while on the roadway. This includes calling, texting, emailing, scrolling playlists, checking notifications, and adjusting a GPS.

As drivers, we have responsibilities while on the road. We must make sure that we are always focused on the roadway and minimize our distractions to keep us, our passengers, and the other road users safe. A fatal crash can happen in seconds.

To reduce the risk of receiving a fine and license suspension, or worse, causing a fatal collision, take part in the following safety actions:

Stay off your phone:

• Put away your hand-operated electronic device when driving, and let calls go to voicemail.

• Use auto-response features on your phone that let others know you’re driving and will respond when it is safe.

• If you do need to make a call or send a text, find a safe place to pull over and park.
