An investigation is underway after a third-party fine collection service provider that works alongside Manitoba Justice was hit by a cyberattack.
The Department of Justice is working to determine how many Manitobans with overdue and outstanding fines may have been impacted. At this time, there is no evidence that personal information was compromised due to this attack.
The independent service provider has hired a leading cybersecurity firm to assess the situation and conduct a forensic review.
“The Manitoba government takes the security of personal information seriously and is committed to protecting this information by taking the necessary steps in accordance with privacy and security standards in the event of an incident,” said the province in a press release.
The Canadian Centre for Cybersecurity and the Manitoba Ombudsman have been informed of the incident.
