On Christmas Day, Winnipeg police responded to an assault with a weapon involving an erratic driver near Buchanan Boulevard and Fairlane Street around 4 p.m.

Police spoke with a 32-year-old man who reported that a 42-year-old male suspect had been driving erratically during a dispute with a woman passenger. The woman exited the vehicle near the location, prompting the victim to stop and check on her well-being. The suspect then produced a baseball bat, swung it at the victim, and threatened to kill him. The victim was not physically injured.
Officers located the vehicle a short time later, identified the driver, and took him into custody. Police said the suspect was impaired by drugs or alcohol and was driving with a suspended license.
A 42-year-old man from Winnipeg is facing charges including assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, operating a conveyance while impaired, and driving while suspended. He was released after being charged.
