Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is holding a news conference on Monday as questions swirl about his political future.
Increasing number of Liberal MPs have called for PM to step down
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is holding a news conference this morning to announce he’s stepping down as Liberal leader, sources tell CBC News.
Sources, who spoke to CBC on the condition they not be named, said Trudeau will stay on until his successor is chosen.
Trudeau will speak at 10:45 a.m. at Rideau Cottage, a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The prime minister’s news conference comes as an increasing number of Liberal MPs are publicly calling on him to resign as leader of the Liberal Party.
Along with at least two dozen individual MPs, several regional caucuses — including Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario — have called for him to step down.
More to come.
