In its fourth and final week, Winnipeg police stopped 912 vehicles as part of their efforts to reduce impaired driving through its annual Holiday Checkstop Program and nearly 4,000 drivers were stopped overall.

In the fourth week, there were 30 impaired driving incidents including six charged with criminal impaired driving, 20 immediate roadside prohibitions, four failed drug screening test positive for cannabis and there were 21 traffic tickets.
In total, the program produced 3,933 vehicles stopped, 124 drivers were found under the influence of alcohol/drugs which included: 18 people charged with criminal impaired driving (four suspected drug-impaired drivers), 106 immediate roadside prohibitions including 12 people who failed drug screening tests (11 positive for cannabis, one positive for cocaine) and 93 traffic tickets.
Of those tested, the highest blood alcohol concentration was 270mg% — more than three times the statutory limit — and eight of the impaired drivers were involved in collisions. Four of the drivers were intoxicated to the point that they were found unconscious behind the wheel. The average age of those charges was 34 years old with the youngest being 16 and the oldest 49.
