RCMP officers were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call at a residence in Vogar at approximately 8 p.m. Upon arrival, officers learned that the woman, under the influence of drugs, had attempted to use a weapon on someone in the residence. She was placed under arrest.

While transporting the woman to Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern for a medical assessment, an officer noticed she had become unresponsive. Police pulled over, requested emergency medical services, and administered emergency care. The woman was taken to Lakeshore General Hospital and later transferred to St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. On Thursday, police were informed that the woman had died in hospital.

The IIU has assumed the investigation, as required by Section 65(4) of the Police Services Act. A request for a civilian monitor will be made to the Manitoba Police Commission due to the fatality.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are being provided at this time.
