Manitoba RCMP search for suspect in attempted child abduction in Split Lake

Thompson Rural RCMP are searching for a suspect after an attempted child abduction in the community of Split Lake.

On Wednesday, RCMP said an 8-year-old girl was on her way to school when an unknown man in a white van offered her a ride. The victim denied the ride and was able to get away and make it to school without injury.

RCMP were contacted about the incident at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday. They quickly responded to the school but learned the suspect had possibly left the community before they were contacted.

According to the victim, the suspect is described as a male with short white hair. He was last seen wearing a light grey jacket. Other witnesses described the suspect’s vehicle as a partially dirty white van that was spotted numerous times driving by the TCN Gas Bar.

RCMP officers conducted exhaustive patrols in the area but could not locate the suspect.

Thompson Rural RCMP are asking residents in the area who have either a camera at their residence or a dash camera to contact the detachment at 204-778-3050, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
