Attempted child abduction in Winnipeg

Winnipeg police responded to a report of an attempted child abduction on Thursday in the 1700 block of Brebeuf Place.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., two girls, aged 8 and 10, were walking to school near Beaverbrook Street and Centennial Street when a man began following them. He then took hold of one of the girl’s hands. An adult in the area saw the interaction and stepped in. The suspect released the girl’s hand and fled.

The children arrived safely at school and reported the incident. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, approximately six feet tall, with a thin build and thin blonde hair. He was wearing a tan beach hat with a wide brim, sunglasses, a tank top, and tropical shorts.

Police ask anyone with information or video surveillance to contact the Child Abuse Unit or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
