Saturday brawl outside Winnipeg restaurant sends man to hospital with stab wound, police say

A man was taken to hospital for a stab wound following an altercation with another man outside a downtown Winnipeg restaurant on Saturday evening.

Police had taped off an area on Hargrave Street near Graham Avenue around 6:45 p.m., said Const. Dani McKinnon during an interview with CBC on Sunday.

An argument between the two men in their sixties broke out inside a restaurant where many people were gathered to watch the Winnipeg Jets game against the Washington Capitals, McKinnon said.

The men, who knew each other, were removed from the establishment and continued fighting on the street. One man was seriously injured, and was rushed to hospital in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable.

The other man had minor injuries and is facing assault charges. Police said he was released on an undertaking.

Police cordoned off the area until they knew the status of the man who was stabbed, McKinnon said.
