On Monday, Tim Hortons announced in a media release that Roll Up To Win is back from Feb. 24 through March 23, but this year with a “special surprise.”
The restaurant chain says that for a limited time only, customers will once again have the opportunity to roll up the rim of their hot beverage cups to reveal prizes, the way they did up until 2020, when the roll up cups were ditched due to issues regarding the pandemic and employee and customer health and safety.
“Guests loved celebrating the 60th anniversary of Tim Hortons with us last year and it inspired us to bring back some classic Roll Up cups this year for a limited time,” said Tim Hortons Chief Marketing Officer Hope Bagozzi in a Monday release.
The contest, which was first introduced back in 1986 as Roll up the Rim to Win, and has become one of the chain’s most popular and longest running promotions, saw customers roll up the physical rim of hot beverage cups to reveal prizes up until 2020.

The contest shifted to a completely digital format beginning in 2020, however, as the COVID-19 pandemic led to concerns about employees and customers handling physical cups.
Tim Hortons says that with the cups being introduced customers who win prizes will show the rim to an employee to retrieve their prize, and then drop the rims into a box that will be set up at restaurants.
Tim Hortons added the contest will continue in its digital form, and said there will be a limited number of roll up cups available when they come out later this month.
