The festival is expected to be an annual event. It will be the first stadium concert held at the venue in eight years. The first night, Rocking Thunder, will take place on July 9 and feature Def Leppard, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Foreigner, and Canadian band Toque. The second night, Country Thunder, on July 10, will be headlined by Aldean and include performances from Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line, Nate Smith, and Madeline Merlo.
Organizers worked with event promoters to bring the festival to Winnipeg after facing challenges in securing large outdoor concerts in recent years. Economic Development Winnipeg is supporting the series with $250,000, and it estimates that the festival will generate $1.8 million for the local economy.
