Man, 49, charged with manslaughter in shooting death of Winnipeg woman

A 49-year-old man is charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of Delany Nora Desmarais in 2022.

Clinton Desmond Bignell was arrested May 1 near Furby Street and Cumberland Avenue, police said in a news release on Monday.

Police found Desmarais with a gunshot wound in her upper body after they were called to William Avenue, near Gertie Street, around 5:20 a.m. on Nov. 12, 2022.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died of her injuries.

An arrest warrant was issued for Bignell in March 2024.  In addition to manslaughter, he is charged with several firearm offences.
