Residents invited to learn about Winnipeg Transit’s future bus garage

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Transit is in the early stages of designing a new bus garage, and Winnipeggers are invited to learn more about the project.

The new garage will be built in Point Douglas, at the intersection of Selkirk Avenue and Oak Point Highway. It will replace the North Garage, located at 1520 Main St., which is Transit’s oldest building, built for vehicles of a different era, and too small for future growth.

The advantages of the new location include its:

  • Access to a major transportation route
  • Proximity to Red River College
  • Commercial and industrial setting
  • Direct access to the signalized intersection at Selkirk Avenue
  • Adjacency to future high-frequency Transit routes

The new garage will be home to approximately 250 buses. This will allow Transit to add 60-foot buses to its fleet, while also supporting the expansion of the Zero-Emission Bus Program. The new garage will also feature an energy efficient bus storage, service, and maintenance facility.

Transit is hosting an information session where residents can get more details about the garage, speak directly with the project team, and see the draft garage design.
