According to the notification, on Saturday at just before midnight, officers were called to the 500 block of Main Street about a man who had been assaulted by a group of people. Officers located a man with a laceration on his head, who appeared to be sleeping on the ground. Officers requested an ambulance. Paramedics attended and determined he needed to go to the hospital. At the hospital, the man attempted to assault an officer, police said, and a brief use-of-force encounter occurred.
A diagnostic test confirmed the man had suffered a skull fracture. As this injury is defined as a serious injury under the IIU regulation, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
Witnesses or individuals who have information or video footage that may assist the investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
The investigation is ongoing.
