Parts of downtown Winnipeg without power as Manitoba Hydro responds to underground equipment fire

Manitoba Hydro is dealing with an underground equipment fire that has caused an outage affecting parts of downtown Winnipeg.

In a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, the Crown corporation said the outage began at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, affecting about 1,450 customers, including traffic lights.

“We’ll need to assess the damage, so we won’t have an estimated time of restoration yet,” Manitoba Hydro said in its post.

Meantime, the Winnipeg Transportation Management Centre says several intersections are affected due to the repairs.
