What’s open, closed this May long weekend

May long weekend — and the unofficial start to summer — will see many Manitobans off of work and relaxing with friends and family Monday.

Victoria Day recognizes the birthday of Queen Victoria and Canada’s connection with the British monarchy.

The Free Press is not publishing a print or e-edition Monday, but readers can visit winnipegfreepress.com for the latest news and information.

Here’s a selection of what’s open and closed on Victoria Day:

Government services

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed Monday.

There is no mail delivery on Monday. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

Recycling and trash

Recycling and garbage will be collected as usual for those with Monday as their collection day.

The Brady Road landfill will be open 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

The 4R Winnipeg depot at the Brady landfill will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

The Pacific 4R depot will be closed Monday.

Winnipeg Transit

Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule Monday.

Libraries

All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed Monday.

Leisure activities

All arenas will be closed Monday.

All leisure centres will be closed Monday, except the Pan Am Pool (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

City of Winnipeg swimming pools will be closed Monday, except the Pan Am Pool (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) the Margaret Grant Pool (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (open 2 p.m. to 6 pm.).

The Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses will be open Monday.

Cemeteries

Brookside, Transcona and St. Vital cemeteries will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Brookside Cemetery administration office will be closed Monday.

Shopping

CF Polo Park, St. Vital Centre, Garden City Shopping Centre, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and Kildonan Place will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.

Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open noon to 5 p.m. Monday.

The Forks Market will be open.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the True North Square location, which will be closed.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for Victoria Day, so call ahead.

Most grocery stores will be open, but possibly with different hours.

Entertainment

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will hold a guided tour, children’s programming and a presentation of the museum’s visiting aircraft, the de Havilland Canada Chipmunk, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. More information can be found at the museum’s website.

The Assiniboine Park Zoo, the Leaf, and the Manitoba Children’s Museum will be open regular hours Monday. While the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq is typically closed Mondays, it will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Victoria Day.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Manitoba Museum will be closed Monday.
