Explosive Device Removal: C24-119994

On May 28, 2024 at approximately 12:30 p.m., General Patrol Officers from the East District responded to a residence in a Kildare-Redonda neighbourhood regarding an explosive device.

What appeared to be a real grenade was found in some property while an individual was cleaning out the garage.

He immediately notified police who arrived including a member of the WPS Bomb Unit. With the the assistance of the Canadian Armed Forces Ammunition Technicians, the grenade was safely removed. It was determined to be a live ordnance.

The origin of the device is unknown, but not believed to be stored with criminal intent.

From time to time explosive devices are located within commercial and residential property as they have been improperly left behind. They should all be treated as live ordnance.

  • DO NOT handle or move
  • Call 911 – describe what you have located e.g. looks like a grenade, explosives, bomb, suspicious package with wires or timing device
  • Leave area and wait for Emergency personnel to arrive
