Police are searching for a suspect after a man was stabbed by a stranger and robbed of his bike downtown in broad daylight on a weekday.
The incident happened on the 500 block of Portage Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday.
A passenger on a bus saw a man get stabbed by another male, who then rode away on a bicycle. A passerby who witnessed the attack also called police.
Winnipeg Police Service officers were sent to the scene and found the victim “bleeding profusely.”
Police gave the man emergency medical care, including placing a life-saving chest seal on him. The victim, in his 30s, was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to a stable.
“He reported being robbed of his bike and stabbed by an unknown suspect,” police said in a news release Friday morning.
The WPS major crimes unit is investigating the stabbing. Police are asking anyone with information about it to contact the unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
The news release did not include a description of the suspect.
