HAL’S HEADLINES: Talk tops latest radio ratings

Article content

Winnipeg’s spring radio ratings came out this week. And I’m happy to report that my talk show, Connecting Winnipeg, on 680 CJOB is an even bigger No. 1 than last time. It continues to have more listeners in its time slot than any other station in the city. Thank YOU for your support! Sound Off Media owner Matt Cundill, an old program director of mine at Power 97, made an interesting observation after Numeris released the new numbers on Thursday. “The top shows aren’t terribly different from 2008. When you have Hal Anderson, Dave Wheeler, Ace Burpee, Chrissy Troy, Phil Aubrey, Joe Aiello and Buster Beau Dean all sitting on top in their respective dayparts, it shows how hard it is to knock off established talent.” Here are Winnipeg’s top commercial radio stations with their share of audience based on all listeners at least 12 years old:

LAND ROVER AWARDED

Manitoba Underdogs Rescue got its new Land Rover Defender this week. What a beautiful ride! I love the colour and decalling. And the best part is, it’s going to make things so much easier for the organization to do its important work, especially up north in remote areas of the province where the spaying and neutering of dogs is so important. The Defender Service Award, presented by Chase and Animal Planet, also comes with $32,500 US. Congrats, MUR! And thank you for what you do.

‘JOLENE’ TOPS LIST

“Jolene” by Dolly Parton has been named the top country song of all time by Rolling Stone. The magazine has actually put together an impressive list of 200 beloved country songs. Johnny Cash’s “I Walk The Line” is next at number two. Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” is number three. Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” round out the top five.

Have you ever wondered how much money celebrities make with their posts on social media? Well, I have and I’m blown away by the amounts being reported by Hopper HQ. On Instagram alone, Kevin Hart collects the most with $28 million dollars a year. Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian are second and third with over $16.5 million. Jennifer Lopez, Ellen DeGeneres and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson all take in just under $10 million. Wow! And again, that’s only IG.
