Suspect caught in Saskatchewan after RCMP shooting was “known to police”Back to video
A 34-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday at the shooting scene at Drovers Run in Niverville, where a 30-year-old was found dead in a truck also carrying another 29-year-old man.
It entered police attention after Manitoba RCMP were alerted by the Saskatchewan force that a stolen truck from Cypress River, Man., had been spotted near Carlyle, Sask, and believed to be headed to Manitoba and there could be a firearm in the vehicle, RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
The vehicle was spotted on Highway 2 and then near Oak Bluff. The Winnipeg Police Service picked up the truck within city limits and followed it to a parking lot in Otterburne, Man., where a cruiser was rammed by the vehicle and a use-of-force encounter followed, city police said Wednesday.

Details of the incident were deferred to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba, who will handle that portion of the investigation.
The WPS helicopter, which had been following the truck from Winnipeg, tracked it to the gas station in Niverville and saw the driver exit, jump into another vehicle and flee the area. The 34-year-old woman attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested by RCMP officers, police said.
WPS officers located the 30-year-old man in the stolen truck and attempted emergency care but he died before an ambulance arrived.
Saskatchewan RCMP eventually arrested the 29-year-old suspect, along with another woman in the vehicle, near Springside, Sask., in a silver vehicle, and not a green 2016 Subaru CrossTrek it had alerted the public to. They continue to search for that vehicle.

A 37-year-old woman was also released without charges.
The 29-year-old man has been charged with two counts of committing assault against peace officer with a weapon, possess property obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to stop, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He remains in custody.
Winnipeg police said Wednesday this suspect was previously known to them, while they report that court records show he has a lengthy criminal record including five convictions for running from police. He’d just finished serving time for an incident near Portage la Prairie in June 2022.
“There is much more work to do on this investigation,” said Manitoba RCMP Supt. Rob Lasson, the acting criminal operations officer. “This was a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional event that was complex and had many moving parts, and all of those involved worked together toward the same goals – keeping citizens safe and getting the suspect in custody.”
