Man charged with sexual assault days after being arrested for exposing himself

A man who was released after being arrested for exposing himself has been charged with sexual assault after an incident less than a week later.

Police officers who were patrolling the Exchange District as part of a violent crime and retail theft initiative responded to a report of a man exposing himself in a lane behind King Street at about 2:45 p.m. on June 10.

“When police located the male, he was still exposing himself and appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamines,” the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Wednesday.

The man was arrested and eventually released on an appearance notice while facing a charge of committing an indecent act.

Police were called about a sexual assault in the 100 block of the Disraeli Freeway at about 11 a.m. Saturday. A woman said she was taking out the trash at a public resource centre when a man approached her, touched her in an inappropriate sexual manner and then grabbed hold of her shirt, preventing her from leaving.

She managed to escape, went inside the centre and contacted police.

General patrol officers found a suspect in the area and arrested him.

A 33-year-old Winnipeg is charged with sexual assault and detained in custody. The WPS is not releasing his name because he has not yet been charged in the first incident.
