Alvin Vermette had to scan his ticket twice, just to make sure what he was seeing was correct.

The Russell, Man., local stopped in at his local gas station to buy and check a couple lottery tickets, when he was stunned to find out his Lotto 6/49 had won $250,000 on the March 13 Extra draw.

“I didn’t know I had won until I scanned the ticket in store,” he said in a press release Friday from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. “I had to scan it a second time to try to count all the zeros.
“Eventually I had to just give the ticket to the retailer to check because I was certain it must be a mistake.”
But sure enough, he was a winner.
“I was in utter disbelief – just stunned!” he said. “I’m going to be sharing this with my family members and then see what is left to play with.”
“It feels fantastic,” he added.
Vermette purchased his Extra ticket at Heartland Fuels Ltd., in Langenburg, Sask., 20 minutes away across the provincial border. He won his prize by matching all seven numbers of the Extra draw on March 13 — 3 1 3 0 6 1 0.
Extra gives players the chance to win top prizes of up to $250,000 alongside their favourite lottery games, as well as secondary prizes of $100,000.
