3-vehicle collision near Lac du Bonnet kills Ontario woman, critically injures another driver

A  collision involving three vehicles killed a woman and sent a man to a hospital with “life-threatening” injuries on Friday evening, RCMP say.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP were called to the scene on Highway 11, near Bilan Road, located to the west of Lac du Bonnet at 10:20 p.m., officers said in a news release on Monday.

A man, 32, from the rural municipality of Lac du Bonnet, about 115 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, was driving south in a pickup truck on Highway 11, the Mounties say, when his truck crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound  SUV.

The SUV, driven by 34-year-old woman, rolled when it careened into a ditch.

A third vehicle, driven by Winnipeg man, 60, was travelling behind the SUV. It swerved to avoid hitting the pickup truck before entering the ditch and hitting the SUV.

The woman, from Utterson, Ont. was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP say.

The driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital in critical condition and the 60-year-old man sustained minor injuries, officers said.

RCMP aided by a forensic collision reconstructionist are investigating.
