Two in critical condition after apartment fire

Two people are in critical condition after they were pulled from a fire in a two-storey apartment building on Keewatin Street early Wednesday morning.

When crews arrived on scene around 3:30 a.m., firefighters launched an attack and rescued the two residents, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release Wednesday morning.

The pair were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

A Winnipeg Transit bus was on scene to provide shelter for residents. The City of Winnipeg’s social services team was also deployed to assist displaced residents find temporary accommodations.

The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m., WFPS said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No damage estimates are available at this time.
