Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Keewatin Street and Magnus Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to two fires in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Keewatin Street fire
At 3:31 a.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of fire at a two-storey apartment building in the 800 block of Keewatin Street.

When crews arrived on scene, the fire was well-involved, and two people were trapped inside their suite. Firefighters launched a fire attack and rescued the both individuals.

Paramedics assessed both people who were rescued and transported them to hospital in critical condition.

A Winnipeg Transit bus was on scene to provide shelter for residents. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was also deployed to assist displaced residents find temporary accommodations.

The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Magnus Avenue fire
At 4:19 a.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of fire at one-storey house in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue.

Upon arrival to the scene, smoke was coming from the structure and crews discovered that the fire had spread to a neighbouring home. There were also reports that one person was trapped inside.

Firefighters quickly launched a fire attack, and rescued the person who was still inside. The fire was declared under control at 5:49 a.m.

Two people were assessed by paramedics on scene. One person was transported to hospital in critical condition, and one person was transported in unstable condition.

Damage estimates are not available at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
