Firefighters called to a two-storey apartment building in the 800 block of Keewatin Street at 3:31 a.m. for a well-involved fire where two people were trapped inside their suite, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release.

Both were rescued and taken to hospital in critical condition.

At 4:19 a.m., crews responded to a fire at a house in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue. Smoke was coming from the one-storey structure, fire had spread to a neighbouring home and there were reports that a person was trapped inside, WFPS said.

The person inside was rescued. Two people were assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital, one in critical condition and the other unstable condition.

The cause of both fires are under investigation.
