Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced the Manitoba government will reopen the former Misericordia Urgent Care Centre as a minor injury and illness clinic, aimed at alleviating pressure on emergency rooms and enhancing patient care.

Minister Asagwara emphasized the government’s commitment to improving access to non-emergency care for Manitobans.

“We’re … delivering on our campaign promise to open minor injury and illness clinics in Winnipeg so that individuals and families have another place to go for their minor ailments, their broken bones, their cuts and their sprains,” Asagwara said.

Located at the Misericordia Health Centre, the new clinic is scheduled to open in early fall. It will be staffed by a team of health-care professionals, including physicians, offering acute care services for minor injuries and illnesses. Patients will have flexibility in accessing care through walk-in appointments or by scheduling online, with extended operating hours tailored to accommodate family schedules.

As part of broader health-care reforms, the province has also issued a request for proposals to establish a second minor injury and illness clinic linked to Grace Hospital, modelled after the successful initiative in Brandon. These clinics are poised to replicate the Brandon model, providing accessible and timely care to residents across Winnipeg.
